Assistant Manager

Experience Requirements:

This role is suitable for both those already working in hospitality management and seeking a change, as well as those working at a supervisory level looking to take the next step. Some existing knowledge of wine is desirable; however, what is more important is a genuine interest and willingness to learn more, and to use that knowledge to deliver exceptional customer service. A Personal Alcohol License is required for this position. This role involves working evenings and weekends as standard.

Job Description:

Runner Duck is an award-winning, independent, specialist wine bar in  Lancaster, serving high-quality wines, cheeses and charcuterie.  Alongside our normal operations, we also have a comprehensive wine tasting programme, which the successful candidate will be expected to assist in running.

The Assistant Manager will be the main shift runner for the premises and is expected to be available to work Friday and Saturday evenings/nights as standard (barring approved leave). Due to the small size of the venue, most shifts are undertaken alone or as part of a very small team. Self-motivation, time management, task prioritisation,  and an understanding of how to still effectively work as part of the team whilst on shift alone are incredibly important.

Outside of running shifts and maintaining the venue, the Assistant  Manager will support the General Manager with the venue’s wine tasting programme, the creation of content for social media and marketing, and, at times, will be required to cover dayshifts for deliveries, cleaning, and administrative duties.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Running shifts, serving on the bar, food preparation, and keeping the venue clean and tidy
  • Opening and closing the venue, cashing up and locking up
  • Maintaining the high level of customer service people expect from Runner Duck
  • Helping to run wine tastings
  • Adhering to and enforcing licensing, health and safety, and food safety rules and systems
  • Assisting in staff recruitment, development and training
  • Working with the team on marketing and social media
  • Covering the responsibilities of the general manager when required
  • Cleaning and maintenance planning

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of wine
  • Experience in food preparation and food health and safety
  • Social media and marketing skills

Summary

Full time (35+ hours per week)

Pay: £13 - £14 p/h (£25000 - 26500 p/y)

Requirements

  • 1+ years of experience in hospitality management or a supervisory role
  • Personal Alcohol License
  • Working hours flexibility and good evening and weekend availability

Desirable

  • Wine knowledge
  • Experience in food preparation and health & safety
  • Social media & marketing skills
