Why RUNNER DUCK?
There are loads of animals that help out at wine vineyards all over the world, from bats to sheep and mules - even armadillos. Animals are often used as a sustainable, eco-friendly way to control weeds and pests.
Our favourite vineyard animal is the Indian runner duck. Vergenoed Estate in South Africa uses hundreds of runner ducks to keep their vines safe, eating aphids, snails and small worms whilst out on patrol. We thought that was pretty cool, so we named our bar after them.
Next time you're visiting, look out for our very own runner duck, Monty. He's usually behind the bar, although we don't let him serve anything because he doesn't have any hands.
